Digital Challenge, Digital Opportunity

Course Code: URBN1001B

Credits: 0

Course Description: Presenting a new framework for economic development, the course presents the immense digital technology changes of the past 40 years in an engaging and easy-to-grasp style. It recounts the surprising disruptions they have brought to employers, employment and the economic and cultural foundation of communities. The course asks and answers the question: will disruption, and the social and political turmoil it brings, be the story of our Digital Century? It describes instead the emerging foundations of an Everywhere Economy that communities can tap to create inclusive prosperity, vibrant societies and rich local cultures – and illustrates it through the story of a small city’s successful effort to break free of decades of stagnation. It concludes by introducing the Community Accelerator Strategy developed by ICF from research and work with more than 200 communities around the world.
