For Newcomers
The trades will be implemented onto the platform in a staggered approach starting with Carpentry in February 2022, followed by welding in the spring and we estimate the remaining four trades to be implemented in the May/June time frame, we will continue to update this page as implementations are underway.
FAST NB leverages a proven, competency-based assessment and adaptive learning platform. Participants use the tool to demonstrate prior learning and experience.
The platform will allow you to have your skills assessed and validate your experience to potential employers and as well offer training for any identified skills gaps.
Opportunities New Brunswick will be actively recruiting individuals with skills in Carpentry, Welding, Electrical, Plumbing, Welding, Machinist, Millwright in other countries who are interested in immigrating to Canada. They will initially concentrate on Carpentry as it is the first trade we are adding to the platform. For newcomers already living here with these skills, they will have the ability to go through the platform and validate their skills against Canadian standards, creating hiring opportunities that did not exist before. The platform also provides support for newcomers to help them overcome the barriers involved in moving to a new country. We look after the employer and the employee.
FAST NB validates your experience for employers. It also informs them of the skilled employees who have gone through the platform who have the skills they require. We will provide the skilled candidate looking for a job the ability to apply and interview for available positions in this sector that they qualify for.

After that, you will begin a self-paced online skills assessment that you can complete at your own pace. The Carpentry Assessment is comprehensive and will take between 24 and 28 hours.
By taking the FAST NB Carpentry Assessment, you will be able to determine where your prior learning compares against Canadian standards, and you will receive a report to use with employers. If any training gaps are identified, training recommendations will be provided.

FAST NB captures employer profiles and provides newcomers with information on where there are demands for carpenters in New Brunswick. There are currently carpentry job openings throughout the province.
The FAST NB platform validates the newcomer's carpentry experience against New Brunswick criteria and standards, leveraging a proven, competency-based assessment and adaptive learning platform for newcomers to demonstrate prior learning and experience required for in-demand skilled trades. Through the platform, newcomers will be introduced to employment opportunities that leverage their current skills while also connecting newcomers to upskilling and skills training if required for further development.
Newcomers living in Canada or looking to migrate to Canada who have skills in carpentry are eligible to register and go through the FAST NB Carpentry Assessment program.

We want to make this process as easy and seamless as possible for you and your company. Multicultural Council and Members in our province indicate that there are candidates already here in Canada and New Brunswick with these skills that they believe the FAST NB platform will identify for employment. FAST NB assesses competency in carpentry against the Atlantic Apprenticeship Curriculum Standard and provides an indication of their level in the Standard. You will be able to interview/hire at the skill level your workplace requires.
FAST NB captures a comprehensive applicant profile and provides newcomers with map‑based information on where there are demands for carpenters to help match your jobs to their interests. FAST NB has insight into the Canadian newcomer pipeline to help predict the supply of skilled people.
