Wondering what we look for when evaluating your applications? Here are some examples of what to do and what NOT to do when you are applying for RPL.

Compare the competencies of the course(s) you took with the competencies of the NBCC course for which you are seeking credit and consider whether they matchAssume the competencies match because the courses have similar-sounding names or the general subject matter of the courses appears to match 
Submit a detailed course outline that clearly identifies the learning outcomes and methods of assessment used in the course you previously completedSubmit a basic course outline that doesn’t provide specific details about the scope, depth, or level of learning you were expected to achieve
Use the resources available to you on the RPL Portal, including NBCC course profiles, the Previously Evaluated Courses List, and program delivery sequences.Submit your application without checking the resources on the RPL Portal.
Submit all supporting documentation in English (including professional translations if required)Submit documents you translated yourself or using Google Translate (all non-English documents must be translated by a professional/legal translation company)
Submit an application for a course you have not yet completed at NBCCSubmit an RPL application for an NBCC course you have failed
Compare the learning you have acquired with the competencies of the NBCC course for which you are seeking credit and consider whether you have achieved at least 80% of the scope, depth and level of learning required in the NBCC courseAssume your prior learning matches the competencies of the NBCC course because you had a job or completed a workshop that relates to the overall program that the course falls under
Use one application to request credit for one NBCC courseUse one application to request credit for more than one NBCC course
Attach relevant supporting documentation that provides credible evidence of the prior learning you have acquiredAttach dozens of documents that show any type of learning you have acquired without considering whether each document relates specifically to the competencies of the NBCC course for which you are seeking credit
Be specific about what, when, how and where you achieved your prior learningGive generalized or vague descriptions of your learning without referencing your specific experiences
