New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) recognizes formal, informal, and non-formal learning that has been acquired both inside and outside the classroom. Through the evaluation and recognition of prior learning, we aim to reduce barriers for learners by validating their existing skills and knowledge, which can reduce time to completion and support more flexible pathways to academic credit and credentials.

In addition the policy outlined above, NBCC is committed to providing a thorough assessment of prior learning and experience from CAF members and veterans with a view to easing (and where possible, streamlining)their transition to the post-secondary environment. This may include credit for some portions of a given program, or even advanced standing in programs specifically related to CAF MOSID. Applicants need only to include an up-to-date copy of their Military Personnel Record Resume (MPRR) with their RPL application.

Military-connected individuals have a tangible connection with the Canadian Armed Forces or the military of their home nation. Military-connected students may identify as:

• Serving members of the Regular or Reserve Force;
• Veterans;
• DND Civil Servants;
• Immediate Family of CAF Member or Veteran; or
• Foreign Military Veterans.

A post secondary institution that has aligned its resources, policies and culture to actively support the unique needs of military personnel, veterans and their families (military connected learners).

The CMVF3C is a national collaboration among partners from post-secondary institutions (PSIs), the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), Military Members, Veterans, their families, and supporting organizations. The aim of CMVF3C is to provide general information to guide exploration and pursuit of post secondary opportunities in order to assist students to, Find the best fit, Orient to post secondary education, Get connected, Access resources and Engage with Mentors and Employers.

Self-identification as a military-connected student is done via the NBCC student registration form. If you’re a current student at NBCC, but not currently identified on your registration, you may amend the form through the Student Self Service portal.

Yes! NBCC recognizes that military service and its impact may conflict with postsecondary learning. We want you to succeed. We’ll support you every step of the way and help you navigate conflicting priorities.

When extraordinary circumstances exist, an instructor makes every reasonable effort to make alternative arrangements with the student. It is up to you to notify and to discuss the circumstances surrounding a late assignment with the instructor, in advance of the due date. Further clarification can be found within NBCC's policy on Course Delivery and Evaluation of Learning.

You may apply for a deferred exam to be written after the exam period and/or at a different site.
