Motorcycle technicians find their own career freedom and adventure, keeping these machines in tip-top shape for their owners. Whether you love to ride or you're looking for a different path for your mechanical abilities, training as a motorcycle technician could put you on an open road of career possibilities.  Your career could include working on all kinds of equipment and small engines, from motorcycles to outboard motors and garden tractors.
 
In our Motorcycle Repair program, you'll learn to diagnose and repair motorcycle systems, including two and four-stroke engines, carburetion, fuel injection, and electrical systems. You'll work on a variety of different equipment from brand-name manufacturers in our fully equipped workshop, and you'll graduate and be ready to start working in just one year.     Motorcycles are used all over the world, and skilled service technicians are needed to keep them running. Graduates often find work in dealerships, working on specific brands and advancing their knowledge of that manufacturer's lineup of products.
     
    With the popularity of customized bikes, technicians also find opportunities with specialty builders and performance shops or start shops of their own. Because small engines power so many things, technicians are not limited to motorbikes. Our graduates can fix almost anything, and some graduates find opportunities working on everything from industrial equipment such as forklifts to snowblowers, lawn equipment, and more.

    The purpose of this course is to refresh skills in mathematics developed through secondary programs in areas deemed essential for the successful completion of the program. Although the topics covered in this course are common to any math program, every effort is made to illustrate their usage in the trades’ professions.

    This course introduces learners to proper applications of basic electrical and electronic principles and to proper handling and usage of batteries.

    Learners acquire skills in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems in vehicles and demonstrate knowledge of starter motor principles and the theory of operation. They are required to diagnose electrical system malfunctions, and plan and carry out repairs.

    This course provides an introduction to the meaning of community service.  Students learn how community service can enhance a student’s educational experience, personal growth, employability, and civic responsibility. Students participate in one day of volunteering to enhance their understanding of civic responsibility and to help the New Brunswick Community College realize its vision of transforming lives and communities.

    In this course, learners focus on applying communication skills in reading, writing, speaking, document use, and critical thinking to make communication effective and efficient while developing computer-related skills necessary to be successful in college and on the job in a trade.

     

    In this course, learners focus on acquiring job search skills to gain a work-term placement as well as employment while also, developing interpersonal communication skills needed to grow their career.
     

    The purpose of this practicum is to provide learners with a direct, supervised practical experience. Such an experience enables learners to apply the knowledge acquired during their training directly to their field of study. The applied work experience exposes the learners to the trade environment and participants are expected to become members of the team in the industry site to which they are attached.

    A safe and healthy workplace is the responsibility of the employer and the employee. This course introduces students to the importance of working safely and addresses how employers and employees can control the hazards and risks associated with the workplace. Students will also learn about the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders including WorkSafeNB, the employer and the employee in ensuring workplaces are safe.

    This course is designed to introduce learners in the Motorcycle Repair trade to a variety of hand tools, power tools, equipment, and their uses within the context of safe work practices. They are required to demonstrate the selection and safe use of common hand and power tools as well as hoisting equipment.

    This course covers the principles and operation of internal combustion engines and related systems including gaskets, seals, sealers, and bearings. Learners acquire the skills necessary to disassemble and assemble an engine; and service, inspect, and repair cooling systems.
     

    This course introduces learners to vehicle components, start, move, and park procedures, and the proper procedures for vehicle lubrication.

    In this course, learners acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to service and repair transmissions.

    This course teaches learners proper procedures of operation, service, repair, and maintenance of air intake and fuel management systems used on two and four-stroke engines.

    This course teaches learners proper procedures of inspecting, repairing, and maintaining braking systems, wheels, and tires, along with the basics of hydraulic principles.

    This course instructs learners on the safe maintenance procedures for engines.
