NBCC announces additional program changes and workforce adjustments to support long-term sustainability

As we continue to navigate shifts in program demand, external policy changes, and the financial pressures associated with new enrolment patterns, NBCC is making strategic program decisions and subsequent workforce adjustments. These changes are necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability of the College while continuing to meet the needs of the students, industry partners, and communities we serve in an evolving post-secondary landscape.

The following provides a summary of the actions we are taking at this time.

  • Program Decisions: Further to decisions announced in February, a list of additional 2026 – 27 and 2027 – 28 program cancellations, suspensions, and additions is included below. These decisions have been made after careful consideration and extensive analysis of current enrolment trends and future needs. We remain committed to supporting our students and communities and will continue to adapt our offerings to ensure NBCC remains a vital resource for education and training in New Brunswick.
  • Position Reductions: One of the most challenging aspects of these decisions is their impact on people. In response to this latest round of program cancellations and suspensions, we are also moving forward with an additional workforce reduction of 5 full-time and 3 term instructor positions.

2026 – 27 & 2027 – 28 Program Changes

Suspensions: Programs removed from the enrolment plan for the upcoming academic years. This is typically done in cases of low applicant interest or when programs require revision. Suspended programs may be added back to future enrolment plans.

Cancellations: Programs permanently removed from the enrolment plan. This typically happens where we have seen multiple years of low applicant interest, low employer demand, or where there is duplication of content and outcomes with other programs.

Additions: Program cohorts added to the enrolment plan for the upcoming academic years. Decisions to offer additional cohorts are based on a number of factors, including student interest and identified labour-market needs in priority sectors.
