NBCC partners with Canada HomeShare to offer students more housing options

Pilot program launches in St. Andrews, Miramichi to connect adults 55+ with students

NBCC has partnered with HomeShare Canada to pilot a new resource for NBCC students seeking comfortable, safe and affordable housing in St. Andrews and Miramichi.

Canada HomeShare helps link adults aged 55+ who are offering a spare room with students who are looking for affordable housing. The connections are made via the Happipad platform.

Ann Drennan, Vice President, Academic, Innovation and Student Affairs at NBCC, says, that while finding housing is an individual student’s responsibility, the college strives to support students as much as possible.

“Through this partnership, we’re hopeful that our students will find a space that really feels like home away from home,” said Drennan. “We’re excited about the ways that inter-generational housing can be an enriching experience for everyone involved: students can secure safe accommodation during their studies, and older adults benefit by getting a little extra income, companionship and, in some cases, a bit of help around the house.”

"Canada HomeShare is thrilled to partner with New Brunswick Community College to bring home sharing to two of their campuses,” said Dr. Raza Mirza, Director of Partnerships and Knowledge Mobilization, HelpAge Canada (Canada HomeShare). “This match is a win for older adults and students alike in these two tight-knit communities, and we are excited to see how the program grows there."
