"September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The purpose of this day is to commemorate the tragic and painful history of residential schools in Canada, and to honour the survivors, families, and communities who continue to feel the impacts of this oppressive system today.

"In recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, NBCC will be closed, and no classes will be held on Friday,September 30th, 2022.

"Although Truth and Reconciliation is about more than just one day, it is important for each of us to use this opportunity to learn more about the tragic history of residential schools and their devastating impact on generations of Indigenous families and communities. To quote The Honourable Murray Sinclair - Education is what got us into this mess, and education will get us out.

"As we approach September 30th, I encourage you to reflect and consider your own role and the role of NBCC in answering the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

"Since 1726 the land on which we live, learn, and work has been subject to treaties that are still in effect today. As we seek to learn and heal on the path to reconciliation, we can draw on the original spirit of those treaties - peace, respect and friendship – to collectively create a better future for all who call this land home."
