Moncton, NB (April 10, 2018): Skills Canada NB will be hosting 17 post-secondary provincial competitions at NBCC Moncton Campus with student and apprentice hopefuls competing for a spot on Team NB! Team New Brunswick will travel to the Skills Canada National Competition in Edmonton, Alberta June 3rd to 6th.
For the first time ever, the Provincial Competitions will emulate the Skills Canada National Competition. Doors will be open to schools from surrounding areas as well as the public to view not only the competition but try their hand at the 30+ Try-a-Trade activities.
“This is an incredible opportunity for New Brunswick youth to see the possibilities of some of the viable careers available to them in the trade and technology sectors,” said Rick Smith, President of the Board of Directors of SCNB.
SCNB reaches hundreds of young New Brunswickers each year through interactive in-class presentations, Trades & Tech Galas for Girls, social media and their signature event – the New Brunswick Skills Competitions. Through these initiatives, SCNB has been successful in changing perceptions and encouraging excellence in the skilled trade and technology sectors.
“As a leading provider of trades training in New Brunswick, NBCC is excited to be hosting this fantastic showcase of skilled trades,” said Catherine Black, NBCC Dean of Trades and Hospitality and Regional Director for Moncton Campus. “Skilled trades and technology not only offer promising and rewarding career paths for tradespeople, they are important to New Brunswick’s economic growth. These competitions will showcase the exceptional skills we have in New Brunswick and, through Try-a-Trade activities, introduce a new generation to these opportunities.”
These competitions would not be possible without the Skills Canada New Brunswick Platinum Level Partners, which include Government of News Brunswick, NBCC, CCNB, UNIFOR and the New Brunswick Building Trades Unions.
