MIRAMICHI (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $61,792 towards OASIS, an entrepreneurial mentorship program, at the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) campus in Miramichi.

“Your government understands what matters most to New Brunswickers,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser, who is also the minister responsible for the Northern and Miramichi Funds. “We know the importance of creating jobs, growing the economy, and securing and enhancing health care and education.”

“New Brunswickers want their government to make investments to help the economy and our continuing investment in the OASIS initiative will continue to provide mentorship, professional development and networking opportunities in the Miramichi region,” he said.

The mentorship program supports small businesses with a database of qualified mentors, monthly professional development sessions and access to community networking activities.

“At NBCC, our commitment is to support both our learners and the communities we serve,” said Marilyn Luscombe, NBCC’s president and CEO. “Through OASIS, we have been able to provide networking opportunities, mentorship and training to entrepreneurs throughout the Miramichi region. Thanks to this generous investment from the Regional Development Corporation, we continue to help small businesses grow and thrive right here in Miramichi.”

Funding is being provided through the Miramichi Regional Economic Development and Innovation Fund. This investment is in addition to $90,000 in funding provided in 2015 to establish the program at NBCC-Miramichi and $67,000 in 2016. The program was launched in Miramichi and later expanded to campuses in Moncton and Saint John.
