NBCC to celebrate Small Business Week in style with East Coast Lifestyle

FREDERICTON - NBCC will be celebrating Small Business Week with a college-wide speaking engagement tour featuring Alex MacLean, founder of East Coast Lifestyle.

Visiting each of our six campus regions from October 17-21, Alex will share his message with NBCC students, staff and the community about following your entrepreneurial dreams. The tour is an initiative of NBCC’s OASIS program, which
supports aspiring and established entrepreneurs through mentorship.

“East Coast Lifestyle is a youthful, entrepreneurial brand that started in Atlantic Canada and has seen success beyond expectation,” said Clarissa Harris-Lebreton, OASIS Coordinator. “This speaking tour is a really unique opportunity to reach out directly to our students and encourage them to consider entrepreneurship – it all starts with a good idea.”

In Canada, a national survey in 2013 found that 16% of millennials hoped to start a business within the coming year, almost twice the rate of older workers.1

“Currently, OASIS is focused on supporting entrepreneurs in the community, but we are looking at ways that we can provide support and resources to students who would like to become entrepreneurs,” she said. “One such resource is our Entrepreneur-in-Residence program, currently available at our NBCC Miramichi and Moncton Campuses, which provides students with access to an experienced, successful entrepreneur.”

As for the tour, Alex is looking forward to sharing his message with students in a more face-to-face setting. “Come get motivated and learn about how to start your own business as you hear about how East Coast Lifestyle started from only an $800 loan,” he said.

The event is open to staff, students and the public.
