About this Microcredential

What It Is: Accelerated, hands-on training in solar PV system installation, developed with industry experts to meet the growing demand for solar installation services.

Who It's For: Red Seal Electricians or Electrician Apprentices (Level 1 and above) looking to expand their expertise into solar energy.

What Participants Gain: Understanding of renewable energy fundamentals and solar PV system concepts. Practical skills in safe and effective racking and wiring installation. Hands-on experience working with solar panel infrastructure under licensed professionals.

Career Outcomes: Step into roles like Solar Energy Technician.

What's The Cost: Thanks to Upskill Canada (powered by Palette Skills) and the Government of Canada, the program is funded for a limited time. Once accepted, you'll only pay $200.

Program Structure

  • Online + In-person at NBCC Saint John
  • Duration: 75 hours over 7 weeks | Dec 15, 2025 to Jan 18, 2026
    • 50 hours online + 25 hours in-person lab
    • In-person dates to be confirmed for January 2026

Required Materials: Participants will need a computer with high-speed internet access for online learning. In-person components will require access to solar panel infrastructure.


Certification

When you complete the Solar PV Systems Installation microcredential you'll earn a digital badge as proof of your achievement.

And if you stack the Solar PV Systems Installation and the Solar PV Systems Connections & Maintenance microcredentials, you can also earn the Clean Technology: Solar PV Systems Electrician milestone digital badge.

You can share your digital badges on your résumé, LinkedIn profile, or e-portfolio to show employers what you can do and the skills you bring to the job.


Admission Requirements

  • Red Seal Electrician or at a minimum, completion of Level 1 of an Electrician Apprenticeship Program in New Brunswick
  • Minimum of three years’ work or volunteer experience, which can be from inside or outside Canada. This experience must be outside of full-time or part-time studies (high school or post-secondary).
  • WHMIS certification, fall arrest training, occupational health and safety familiarity.
  • Proficiency in English (see NBCC English Language Requirements).
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada. Work permit holders should have at least one year remaining on their permit after the start of the upskilling program.
