NBCC students receive 392 student awards

FREDERICTON – Students across the six campuses of New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) are receiving important support to pursue their educational dreams. This year, 392 scholarships and bursaries worth $396,187 were awarded to NBCC students. Throughout February, students and staff took time to acknowledge and celebrate the generosity of donors who make these awards possible.

With almost half of NBCC’s students indicating finances as the biggest obstacle they overcome in pursuing their education, the student awards can make the difference between achieving and deferring their dream.

“Words can’t describe the gratitude we feel to be the recipients of the bursaries,” said Nora Bertin, a student in the Child and Youth Care program at NBCC’s Miramichi Campus. “These funds are a huge help for students for many different reasons. Receiving this money means we can focus more on our studies, as we won’t have the worry about working, or paying back a student loan.”

Since the NBCC Foundation Inc. was created in 2006, over 2000 students have received almost $2 million in awards. Through the generosity of donors and the management of the NBCC Foundation Inc., the amount of financial support has increased every year to date.

“There is no greater gift than education. Each year, we have been able to provide more students with financial support, but the need also continues to grow,” said Marilyn Luscombe, President and CEO of NBCC. “On behalf of NBCC, I’d like to thank our donors – their generosity truly transforms lives. I’d also like to thank the NBCC Foundation for being the responsible stewards of our donors’ generosity.”
