Frequently Asked Questions

Curious About Our Hiring Process? We’re Here to Help!

If you have any questions about how we hire at NBCC, we’ve got you covered. Explore our frequently asked questions for clear and concise answers to help you navigate the process with ease.

What does the hiring process at NBCC look like?

Our hiring process begins with an online application, followed by an initial review of all applicants. Shortlisted candidates are invited for interviews, which may be conducted by phone, video, or in person. Depending on the role, there may also be assessments and reference checks before a final decision is made.

How long does the process usually take?

Timelines can vary depending on the position and number of applicants. On average, it takes 2 to 4 weeks from the application deadline to the final decision, though this can vary depending on scheduling and other factors. We aim to keep candidates informed throughout the process.

How will I know if I have been selected for an interview?

If you're shortlisted, a member of our Talent Acquisition team will contact you by email or phone to schedule your interview. If you're not selected, you will also be notified.

Can I apply for more than one position?

Yes! You’re welcome to apply to multiple positions that match your qualifications. Each application is reviewed individually, so we recommend tailoring your resume and cover letter to each role.

Can I receive feedback if I’m not selected?

Yes. If you’re not selected, you may request feedback. We encourage candidates to reach out to the Talent Partner for insights into the decision — it’s a valuable opportunity to reflect and grow for future opportunities.

What should I expect during the interview?

NBCC interviews typically include a mix of behavioral, situational, and role-specific questions. We’re looking not just at technical skills, but also alignment with our values and culture. Be prepared to share examples of your experience, challenges you've solved, and how you work with others.

Does NBCC offer remote or hybrid work options?

Depending on the role and department, NBCC does offer flexible work arrangements — including hybrid and remote options. These will be discussed during the interview if relevant to the position.

What happens after the interview?

Following your interview, we may conduct reference checks or additional evaluations before making a final decision. Regardless of the outcome, you will be informed once a decision has been made.

Do I need to submit a cover letter?

Some positions require a cover letter; others do not. Always check the job posting details. A well-written cover letter can help highlight your motivation and fit for the role.

Can I update my application after I’ve submitted it?

Unfortunately, once submitted, applications can’t be edited. If you need to provide updated information, you may reach out to the Talent Acquisition team.

Do I need Canadian work authorization to apply?

Yes. Unless otherwise specified, all applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Will I be told who’s on the interview panel in advance?

Yes. Once your interview is scheduled, we’ll provide details on the format, panel members, and any materials or prep that may be required.

Are accommodations available during the hiring process?

Absolutely. We’re committed to an inclusive hiring experience. If you require accommodation at any stage, please contact our Talent Acquisition team.

What does new employees' onboarding at NBCC look like?

New employees participate in a structured onboarding process that includes orientation sessions, systems access, and support from both People & Culture and their team to help them feel settled from day one.

Will I have a probation period?

Yes, most roles include a probationary period as outlined in the applicable collective agreement or policy. Details will be discussed during the offer stage.
