Chris StandenEngineering Technology, Moncton
Engineering Technology instructor Chris Standen teamed up with students and staff from Riverview High School to create an aquaponics garden to produce food from both the land and water. The hydroponic structures have a large tank with fish living in them on the bottom half and on top is a vegetable garden nourished by the water and fish waste. Fish waste acts as a natural fertilizer. As the world’s population increases, research like this may help to develop innovative ways to produce food in a sustainable way.
