Program Description

This program is designed to prepare you to operate Class 1 vehicles to transport goods over urban, interurban, provincial and international routes. Professional drivers transport finished goods and raw materials over land, typically to and from manufacturing plants, and retail and distribution centres.

This program will train you to:

  • Comply with laws, regulations, policies and standards
  • Comply with administration/paperwork standards
  • Ensure vehicle maintenance and readiness
  • Develop advanced driving skills under a variety of operating conditions
  • Plan and execute trips
  • Handle cargo (manage loads and weight distribution)
  • Communicate effectively with peers, customers, dispatchers and supervisors
  • Exhibit transportation technology skills

Credential: Certificate in Professional Driver (Class 1)

Prerequisites: (any fees associated with acquiring the Prerequisites are the responsibility of the applicant) 

  • A complete Class 5 Motor Vehicle License;
  • A Driver Abstract which can be obtained at Service New Brunswick;
  • A Criminal Background Record Check (obtained from your local detachment of the RCMP);
  • A medical form must be filled out by a physician; 
  • The minimum age for this training is 21.
  • High School Diploma or Adult High School Diploma or GED Diploma of High School Equivalency, or apply as a Mature Student
