NBCC Moncton Campus transforms into Dragon’s Den

FREDERICTON – New Brunswick Community College’s Moncton Campus is delighted to be the only New Brunswick location for the cross-Canada audition tour of the popular CBC program, “Dragons’ Den.” The show will only be hosting one audition in New Brunswick, which will take place March 3.

The show, which sees entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to a team of “dragons,” who are self-made successes in Canadian business, is a perfect fit for NBCC which is home to OASIS, an innovative multi-generational mentorship program for small businesses in the area.

The OASIS program matches self-employed NBCC alumni in the area with experienced entrepreneurs to help develop their business ideas and solve problems unique to entrepreneurship. “The OASIS program isn’t going to give an entrepreneur with a great idea thousands of dollars like the Dragons would, but it will support entrepreneurial spirit and the sharing of experiences for entrepreneurs who are hoping to get their businesses off the ground,” said Clarissa Harris-Lebreton, Coordinator of the OASIS program.

OASIS started as a pilot project out of the NBCC Miramichi Campus in 2014-15 and has since expanded to NBCC Moncton Campus. This fall, nine NBCC alumni in the Moncton area were paired with mentors.

"We wish the best of luck to all New Brunswick entrepreneurs who are auditioning for Dragons' Den and we also want them to know that there are supports and resources here in New Brunswick," she said. "Our experience with growing the OASIS program illustrates that this mentorship program is not only wanted but needed by entrepreneurs running small businesses in New Brunswick – and we intend to continue helping to meet this need."
