Indigenous Student Support

P’jilasi / Kulasihkulpon / Welcome!

We are so glad you have chosen NBCC for your educational journey. At NBCC, our students always remain at the centre of everything we do. We know that navigating through College can be challenging sometimes. Our Indigenous Student Success Coach team can serve as your first point of contact to respond to inquiries and connect you with services and support.

Indigenous Student Success Coaches

Indigenous Student Success Coaches are here to support Indigenous students in their learning journey at NBCC and to assist in accessing the many support and services that NBCC has to offer.

Indigenous Student Success Coaches serve as:

  • A liaison to Indigenous services at our six campuses.
  • A peer support, providing academic coaching, financial support (identifying bursaries, scholarships and potential funding sources) and cultural support to students and staff.
  • A host for activities throughout the year such as Elder visits, Indigenous teachings, and cultural sharing events.
  • And assist students with making connections to future employers and bridging to the workplace.

Connect with NBCC’s Indigenous Community

Several campuses have Indigenous Gathering Spaces. These are safe and peaceful spaces to meet other students, study, learn about Indigenous culture and more. We also have an online Facebook community, all are welcome to join.

Peer Mentor Program

As a Peer Mentor, you will offer peer support and guidance to students, answering questions about cultural support and student services available on campus and in the community, while sharing your own experiences to support resource navigation and community connection.

Peer mentors work in partnership with the Student Services team and will have the opportunity to provide important feedback, network and develop transformative relationships with students and staff. This role provides peer support that recognizes the cultural background and unique learning needs of students.
