Bernice LaniganThis fall, NBCC alumnae Bernice Lanigan was a recipient of the Women-in-Nuclear (WiN) Canada award which is given to a member who has made an outstanding leadership contribution in the success of WiN-Canada. WiN is a worldwide association of women working professionally in various fields of nuclear energy and radiation applications.

A ’87 graduate of NBCC’s Chemical Technology program, Lanigan is an Internal Process Auditor with NB Power at Point Lepreau Generating Station. Describing herself as a lifelong learner, she recently completed an Adult Education Certificate with UNB while working full time and is currently completing a yoga instructor certification. Her passion for personal and professional development also extends to her role with WiN.

She has held the WiN-New Brunswick chair position since she founded the chapter in 2007 and through her efforts, the chapter has grown to 60 members since its inception. As a result of her involvement, WiN has had the opportunity to connect with hundreds of female students in New Brunswick to learn more about the life of a skilled tradeswoman, especially as it relates to the nuclear industry.

"Bernice is doing a great job at promoting nuclear technology as an exciting and rewarding career choice for the next generation of New Brunswickers," said Laura Veillette, Project Services Manager at Point Lepreau and also a member of WiN.

The award was presented at the annual WiN-Canada conference which took place in Pembroke, Ontario. Congratulations Bernice on your award!
