Class of 1994 - Miramichi Campus - Courseware Authoring

I chose NBCC mainly because several of my family members had gone, and were very successful in their careers. As well, I knew it would provide a great base I could grow upon. Looking back, it changed my life.

My time at NBCC Miramichi was exciting and rewarding. Coming to what was then Chatham from the small town of Dalhousie, I was treated warmly and professionally by staff, and I always felt supported in my learning. As part of the first graduating class of the 'new' Learning Technologies department at NBCC Miramichi in 1994, we were encouraged to take an entrepreneurial approach to our careers. The timing couldn't have been better - the Internet was just becoming available as subscriptions to "nbnet" were just being made available through NB Tel, and the e-Learning industry was also starting to take form.

I had several opportunities come to me before I graduated, and decided to move to Halifax to take a position with a company specializing in technology-based learning. They had won a large contract with the Department of National Defence and had many vacancies to fill. There could not have been a better fit for me early in my career. I worked on exciting projects in defence, aerospace, and rail. Being young and mobile, I was willing to travel, and had the opportunity to travel throughout North America and experience things I would never have thought possible.

In the years since, I shifted my work to take on various roles in implementing large enterprise software systems such as PeopleSoft and SAP. Ironically, when NBCC's student information system, PeopleSoft, was being implemented in 2002 with Deloitte as the implementation partner, I was working with Deloitte, and was assigned to that project. I was working alongside Charlotte Goguen, who was the registrar from my time at NBCC-Miramichi! Being on that project team in Fredericton felt a lot like coming home.

I now work in management for the Nova Scotia provincial government. I have earned a few professional designations and continued my education. I have owned a couple of small businesses, and held leadership positions on various boards. NBCC equipped me with an excellent foundation to grow upon. It instilled a lifelong love of learning.

Through the years, I have met many college graduates who have attained great success. NBCC has certainly been key to their success, as it was to mine.
