NBCC students promote seven dimensions of health at 9th Annual Community Health and Wellness Fair

ST. ANDREWS – The public is invited to join NBCC students on November 5 for the 9th Annual NBCC St. Andrews Community Health and Wellness Fair. Students will showcase their skills and promote the Seven Dimensions of Health: Social, Physical, Occupational, Spiritual, Emotional, Environmental and Intellectual/Mental Health.

“NBCC is committed to our learners and community alike,” said Allan Gray, Department Head for the Hospitality & Tourism, Health, and Human Services programs at NBCC. “The Health and Wellness Fair is a perfect example of how our students and staff are applying their skills, engaging with our community members and giving back.”

NBCC’s Practical Nurse and Personal Support Worker students are at the heart of this event. Together, with help from fellow students in the Human Services, Carpentry, International Travel and Tourism, Hotel and Restaurant Operations and Culinary Arts programs, this public event includes:

  • Over 35 exhibitors ranging from mental fitness to wellness vacations (11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) Free admission. Practical Nurse and Personal Support Worker students will offer Blood Pressure and Blood Glucose clinics, as a part of their Nursing Concepts and Skills course.
  • Chair-ity Live Auction (viewing from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. / auction begins at 2 p.m.) Free admission. Take a seat and support a good cause! This auction features chairs painted by local artists.
  • Home Support Services Luncheon (12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.) $20 per person. Hotel and Restaurant Operations students will host while guests enjoy a meal prepared by Culinary Arts students. To make a reservation, please contact Kim Garron at 529-5044 or email lddr.reservations@nbcc.ca.

“As we enter our 9th Fair, we’re excited to continue our part in building a healthy community,” said Linda Brownrigg, Regional Director at NBCC. “We invite the public to come out and learn about their health and wellbeing, support student learning and participate in a lively auction for a great cause.”

The proceeds from ticket sales for the luncheon and the live Chair-ity auction, will support Home Support Services of Charlotte County, a non-profit organization that provides in-home care for the elderly, Alzheimer and diabetes patients and others in need of special living assistance. Although admission is free, voluntary donations are welcome and will be accepted at the door.
